The Challenge

Existing building with deep floor plates and limited window area. Central apartments had restricted access to external walls, making natural ventilation challenging. Listed building constraints limited external modifications.

Our Solution

Comprehensive TM59 analysis revealed that perimeter apartments could achieve compliance with enhanced natural ventilation, while central units required mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. We designed a hybrid strategy that minimized costs while ensuring compliance.

Results

Successfully demonstrated TM59 compliance for the conversion. Our pragmatic approach balanced heritage constraints with thermal performance requirements, enabling the developer to proceed with confidence. Planning approved with our thermal strategy as a condition.
