The Challenge
Developer required TM52 assessment to achieve BREEAM Excellent rating. The building featured extensive glazing on all facades to maximize natural light, creating significant solar gain challenges. Client needed to demonstrate excellent thermal comfort without relying on mechanical cooling.
Our Solution
We conducted comprehensive TM52 thermal comfort modeling using IESVE for all office zones across different orientations. Analyzed adaptive thermal comfort criteria for naturally ventilated spaces. Optimized external solar shading design and automated ventilation controls to maintain comfort during peak summer conditions.
Results
Successfully demonstrated TM52 compliance for all office zones, contributing to BREEAM Excellent certification. Our optimized shading strategy reduced cooling loads by 35% compared to initial design, while maintaining excellent daylighting. Client avoided costly mechanical cooling system installation.
